Rosemary Oil: Nature's Rogaine

Salvia rosmarinus  commonly known as Rosemary is a member of the sage family Lamiaceae, which includes many other medicinal and culinary herbs.

Rosemary essential oil is believed to have a drying and healing type of energy. In Ayurveda, rosemary essential oil is used to reduce excess vata and kapha, and is thought to increase pitta. In Ayurvedic treatments, rosemary essential oil is used as a tonic for the hair and skin because of its anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial antiseptic properties. Rosemary also has the ability increase blood flow to the scalp.

A 2015 study compared Minoxidil (an FDA-approved treatment for hair loss) to Rosemary oil over a period of six months. The results showed both products had comparable results, but the rosemary oil was actually more beneficial, as it did not irritate the scalp as much as minoxidil.

Rosemary Essential Oil helps to retain the delicate balance of the scalp's microbiome which is priority to improve our hair's thickness and growth.

You can easily incorporate Rosemary infused oil in your hair care regimen. Some of the ways include Hot Oil Treatments, Pre Shampoo Treatment or simply using the oil as a massage oil at night before going to bed two to three times a week. Here at  Butter & Sage Skin Apothecary we have in stock an Ayurvedic Scalp and Hair Oil that is infused with herbs including Rosemary and contains Rosemary Essential Oil. This oil can be used in the ways mentioned and is available in a  2 oz and 4 oz bottle.
